Kolašin is a 3,000 inhabitants town at an elevation of 954 m. The district (municipality) of Kolašin has 9,000 inhabitants.
In the past, Kolašin was the place for bloody battles, first for the independence from Turkey, later (WWII) to free Montenegro from any foreign occupation. It has been almost completely destroyed several times and thus has no ancient buildings.
The city stands at the foot of Mount Bjelasica (elevation 2,139 meters) and of the Sinjajevina massif that tops at 2,277 meters with Mount Babji Zub. It is the main city of the Morača valley. It is a ski station and one of the centers of Montenegro's mountain tourism Žabljak is a more attractive destination, but Kolašin has the advantage of being easily accessible by road (E65, E80).and even by rail (Belgrade - Bar railway). Podgorica Airport is 80 km (50 mi) away, and has regular flights to major European destinations.

Jean-Louis, lovely little page about Kolasin. We are currently planning our upcoming trip to Montenegro and Kolasin is a possible option for a stop.
Oh wow, the valley of Morača river is something for me!! looks like during low water one can even hike at water level! And your restaurant - dishes tip made me hungry :-)
The name of this town reminded me the name of old Russian town Kalayzin on the Volga with the famous belfry standing in the water (Tverskaya Oblast'). I would pet your wonderful dog as well if I could, haha!
Great new page
I can't blame the kids for wanting to pet your Silky Terrier - very cute! That is nice rugged scenery you enjoyed in the Moraèa area. Interesting food tips re the Vodenica restaurant too!
Great tips. Thanks for sharing.
