Two days later ! - Iceland
Two days later !

Two days later, JohnOGroots appears on the horizon ! In the mean time, there has been a short stop if The Feroes where we were lucky to watch a yearly celebration full of colors. Have a look at my Faroe islands page.

Now Iceland is over, back to Scotland first and later home !

Later ! - Iceland
Later !

A few kilometers further and half an hour later, Sedisfjordur is now very close and sun is nearly completely gone. That will be the last picture taken in Iceland and more sadly, this is now for real the end of the trip !

Seydisfjordur - Iceland
Seydisfjordur

This is the beginning of a sunset not far from Seydisfjordur where we should embark soon on board of the Smyril. We are now very close to the end of this wonderful 3 weeks trip ! You need at least 3 weeks if you want to visit correctly Iceland. Of course, longer is better but in 3 weeks, you can already see a lot !

Single seal - Iceland
Single seal

A single seal watches friendly towards us ! He looks like if he wanted to speak ! This picture was not taken in the wild as previous ones but in the zoo of Reykjavik. It is easier to get close to the animals !

Seals - Iceland
Seals

This seals colony comprises about 30 animals. Some have gone quite far from the sea, on top of the islet. I would have liked to approach closer them but them but it was impossible and to get this picture, I had to use powerful telelens.

Ducks and seals - Iceland
Ducks and seals

Numerous unidentified ducks swim in the ocean. You willbetter see them if you enlarge the picture. Those which are found the most often are : Mallard (Anas platyrhyncos), Shoveler (Anas clypeata), Pochard (Aythea ferina), Eider (Somateria mollissima), Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula). Look at my travelogue to see some of them. In the background, seals are resting on the rocks.

Svinafelljökull - Iceland
Svinafelljökull

Svinafelljökull is inside the Skatafell national park. It has the advantage of being a place where everybody can have a close look at the cracks in the ice of a glacier without being equipped for mountain trip..

Breidamerkurjökull, close-up - Iceland
Breidamerkurjökull, close-up

Some of the ice packs went ashore. The aspect of their surfaces shows clearly that they are melting fast. This was at the very end of July, the period when snow and ice melt the most. After mi-august, melting will be over and freezing again will resume.

Breidamerkurjökull - Iceland
Breidamerkurjökull

The Breidamerkurjökull released peacefully its ice packs into a lake. There was no wind, which allowed the ice packs to reflect smoothly on the surface of the water. This looks very peaceful while volcanic activity is underneath and can change all that in a few hours.

Oralfajökull - Iceland
Oralfajökull

When we were in Iceland the Vatnajökull was quiet. The Oralfajökull was flowing gently into a lake. I expect that nothing remains of what we have seen then and that the landscape is now completely different.
