Lefkas, also known as Levkas, Leucade or Lefkada, Sainte Maure or Santa Maura is one of the Ionian Islands. It is 35 km long and 15 km wide. It has every kind of landscape, large sand beaches, small and secluded inlets, tall cliffs, an inland plateau with mountains over 100 m, waterfalls, etc.

VT location database has several entries:
"Prefecture of Lefkada" which includes Nisis Lefkas (island of Lefkas) and Nisida Meganisi (island of Meganisi)
"Lefkas island"
"Lefkas" (the chora)
Several other locations that are no always among the most important.

I have built three different pages:
"Lefkas" will be only for the city of Lefkas, the capital of the island, which stands at the "entrance" into the island.
On "Lefkas island" page, there will be tips on the northern and north-western coasts, on Ligia and Nidri, two villages of the eastern coast.
On "Vasiliki" page, will be tips on the southern part of the island :Vasiliki itself, Cape Lefkada and Sivota.

This page will be only about Lefkas city, the "chora" of Lefkas island.

On small Greek islands, the same name applies without distinction to the whole island and to the village or to the main town if several. To make the distinction, the city is referred to as the "chora". This happens also on some large islands such as Lefkas, Corfu, Ithaki, Zakynthos, Kithira, but not on Kephallinia, Crete or Evia.

Beautiful Lefkas. We loved Lefkas town, with it's old fashioned shops and great food places.

Ah yes, the Greek islands are something I have not yet experienced!! Lovely looking little streets and interesting info on the earthquake situation. The restaurant sounds like an excellent spot for a meal!

Great shots of narrow side streets and charming, pituresque houses... I miss Greece now.

Here also quite a difference, this time between 1976 and 2001. What is a chora?
