Vodjnan is 11 km north to Pula. Dignano is the name of the city in the Istriot dialect and in Italian. This is one of the places in Istria where the Istriot dialect is remaining in use.
With its red walls, the town hall, on Narodni Trg (Piazza del Popolo) has a very special character.
The coat of arms of Vodnjan is Argent a Cross Gules. Similar coat of arms is held by several other cities in the area, and probably originates from the crusade period. The flag is yellow with the coat of arms in the middle. The ceremonial flag is a yellow gonfalon with the coat of arms in the middle topped with a mural crown and surrounded with an olive and an oak branch tied with a light blue ribbon and the name of the community inscribed in two arches below in Croatian and Italian. It is amazing how the coat of arm of Vodjnan and of several Istrian cities looks so closely alike the coat of arm of French Savoie province.

How wonderful that you notice such delicate details. I do that sort of thing too. Drive my family nuts because I want to look at it all. Lovely page!
What an interesting little town. I hope they don't"over" restore it. Those pavements look like polished marble, and St Blaise 's "rake" looks like Poseidon's trident!
Such a wonderful town Hall with its vibrant colour and wooden balcony. Also love the little narrow streets, esp. Castle Street.
Very interest, Jean-Louis! Those narrow cobbled streets are amazingly picturesque! The upper balcony windows of the town hall look Moorish in design. The stone inscription in your final Tip seems to start with '1488' to me!
The Town Hall and the longest medieval street in Europe: Ulica Castello look amazing!
Very nice page and pics, greetings Alphons...
Isn't Vodnjan such a marvellous laid back place?!
Another great Croatian page. I like this part of Croatia. Thanks.
Hey you did some serious Istra exploration - glad you liked my homeland!
Aaaah, I was going to ask you JL, how your Croatian holiday was. I can see it was a lovely time!! Great pics!
