Valeggio sul Mincio as it is named in Italian or Valès sul Mèns as it is named in Veneto is a charming little city of 10,927, belonging to the Province of Verona and the Region Veneto. Close to the Lake of Guarda, the elevation is 88 meters. |
| | The city lays on the natural moraine amphitheatre which overlooks the Po valley. The Mincio valley crosses the town from north to south. Then, the city has always been a cross road and a strategic place. It was the stronghold of the Della Scala family, I Scaligeri. The Scaligeri castle dominates the city on top of its rocky peak. |
Inside the city, the huge Saint Peter cathedral makes a counterpart to the castle and also dominates the city. As usually in such a case, there must have been a rivalry between the church and the Scaligeri, between the religious power and the secular power !
However, the sudden interest for Valeggio is evidently due to the First VT European meeting held in the city on 2005 May 6th and 7th ! | | |
