Ksar Ghilane is improperly named Qasr Ghilan in VT destination database and I had to struggle a while before finding it. It is only 70 km from Chenini, improperly named Shanini in VT destination database. There is no road but in most parts an easy sandy track, available to any regular car. With a Landrover, we felt in complete security. |
| | The landscape of the dunes is best photographed in the early morning, when the sun is low on the horizon. This is also the time when living creature wander and can be seen. If you only see the prints on the sand, you would never guess who did them ! |
At night, the sand is colder and keeps some moisture. When the sun rises, it dry it and the grains of sand become more mobile. When there is an edge, as on this picture, the sand will flow and make amazing miniature landscapes. | | |

evaanna Sat Jul 4, 2009 12:11 UTC Fascinating page on your journey in the desert. You were so brave to drive across these seemingly endless sands. Fantastic colours in your excellent pictures! | Yaqui Mon Jun 15, 2009 17:00 UTC You are so adventurous. Desolated landscape of the desert is so beautiful. The Monument de la colonne Leclerc monument was probably out of place there, but still it is lovely. Wonderful page JL! | volopolo Fri Jun 13, 2008 07:22 UTC Nice page | NourElakel Wed Jan 16, 2008 16:53 UTC What is the exact location of this well in Qsar Ghilan? Thanks. |
