A cute little city of the Alsace Piedmont

Place de l'Hôtel de Ville
Bœrsch (which can be written Boersch for those that cannot get the « oe » properly, with the « o » and the « e » linked) is named Börsch in Alsatian. It is a very small village of 2,100, on the Route des vins, between Obernai (4 km) and Rosheim, not far from Mutzig and Molsheim (11 km). It is 34 km from Strasbourg.

The full official name is Bœrsch-Saint-Léonard-Klingenthal as the community brings together the chief-town of Bœrsch with its two hamlets of Saint-Léonard and Klingenthal

Bœrsch is not touristy but however is worth a visit as it has a city wall (built in 1340) with three fortified gates, beautiful wine-growers’ houses and a delicious central square.

The site of Bœrsch was already inhabited 300 years ago but the first written mention of the name dates from 1109, when it was a property of Saint-Léonard Abbey. In 1340, it was granted the statute of city and thus could build city walls. Because of destructions during several wars, nowadays Bœrsch has few remains of the Middle ages period and the city is mostly Renaissance style.

Beautiful little town, a real architectural treasure and not even touristy! Hope I can visit it someday.

Beautiful half-timbered architecture. Beautiful Six Buckets well. These are my kinds of towns to visit and to explore.

Sweet little town. I'd love to wander through these little hamlets with lots of time to sit and absorb the atmosphere created by such ancient buildings.

I wonder when people stopped washing their clothes in that "lavoir" -- maybe in the 1940s, 50s or even 60s? I remember when my mother got her first (top-loading) washing machine -- I think I was around seven or eight years old at the time.
