Those who come to Morocco will first think to visit Fes, Meknes, Tangiers, Marrakech and Ouarzazate. Rabat is not among the main destinations though it has a lot to offer to the visitor. The bonus is that you don't find yourself amidst crowds of tourists and that you are not assaulted by self designated guides. Try Rabat !
The Medina is quite impressive, with it's 5 km walls.
Salé is the twin town to Rabat, on the other side of the Bou Regreg. Visit my Salé page by clicking here
The souk is not as spectacular as in Fes or in Marrakech but really worth a visit. The shops are not designed for tourists but for Moroccans and tourists. You can wander freely without being bothered by anybody. You should visit the Casbah des Oudaias, the Mohamed V memorial and Hassan tower, the Chellah necropolis and gardens with their numerous storks and egrets. In the archeological museum you should visit mainly the Roman bronzes.

I like the tower of Hassan. Nice page
Nice tour of Rabat.
Fantastic pictures!
i'll have to explore more of this page later! it looks interesting, and your tip, surely very helpful to us who might go here!
It really DOES sound unusual to go to a supermarket, but your tips show, why it is best! Thanks a lot for these helpful tips!
Même point de vue concernant cette magnifique casbah ! J'ai adoré ! assez troublant de voir des photos quasi-identiques aux miennes... je m'étais presque cru tout seul dans cette fameuse casbah ! ;o)
An excellent, detailed and absorbing page on Rabat. The protocol of where to go and how and when to take photos is so valuable. Respect the local people, in other words.
I love this page , as maybe my next destination to the north of Africa
