Villas on Paxos and other Paxoi Island, Greece Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

Although we love almost everywhere on Paxos, personally, we prefer to stay near the small village of Loggos.

Tour operators that we've been with are Greek Islands Club (our first 4 visits to Paxos), who have some fabulous properties and give really excellent service, but are very expensive. Simply Ionian, who we went with 5 times, but who have also become quite expensive since they were taken over by the Tui Group (who own Thomsons). Planos, who specialise in Paxos and have some really good villas at very reasonable prices (for Paxos!). Fianlly, Kosmar, who offer pretty basic studio accommodation, but good value if you're looking for a cheap holiday.

A lot of people ask us why, after so many visits to Paxos, we don't just get cheap flights and do it ourselves instead of booking packages. The problem is that, because we've been so many times, we know exactly where we want to stay and, since all of what we consider to be the best accommodation in the prime locations is contracted to operators for the whole season, we have little choice but to pay the middle man :-( The other problem is co-ordinating flight and ferry times. Most people who travel independently have to spend their first and/or last night on Corfu and for us that's just not worth the hassle at the moment - maybe when we retire and can spend a couple of months at a time in Greece!

We were advised by Planos in late 2004 that Villa Tula (see below) was being sold as a private family holiday home. I've not deleted the tip for it yet, since it's still (summer 2005) under negotiation and negotiations can take quite some time in Greece!

However, to be on the safe side, we booked the Spiros Apartment in The Manor House with Travel a la Carte for our 3 weeks in 2005. It's a little further from the beach, but much closer to the village and we found it to be even better than Tula. We had walked past the house many times and admired its impressive architecture and were just as impressed when we actually got to see the inside of it.

There are 2 apartments for up to 6 people and 2 for up to 3 people and prices vary widely according to season and number of occupants, so any price indication would be wildly inaccurate, but it's about average for Loggos. Our apartment had been newly refurbished with aircon and a REAL shower cubicle and an extractor fan in the bathroom, so none of the hot sleepless nights or permanently wet bathroom floors that we've become accustomed to in Greece! It has a decent-sized double bedroom with plenty of wardrobe space and an airy, open-plan kitchen/living room with a sofabed for a third person. We were so delighted with it that we've already re-booked it for next year.

This was our first time with Travel a la Carte and we were very pleased with their overall service and with their resident Paxos rep, Chris. We can't wait to return next year.

Unique Qualities: Nearest main beach about 2 minutes walk, but bathing from rocks directly in front of the house.

Less than a minute's walk to the village of Loggos.

We went to Paxos with Planos for the first time in 2004 and thought they gave very good service and excellent value for money . We stayed in Villa Tula on Levrechio beach.

It's a wonderful location, right on the beach and only 5 minutes walk into Loggos village. Levrechio beach has no natural shade - just a small daytime bar in the olive grove behind the beach. But with Tula being just a few steps away from the beach, who needs beach shade!

Planos have 3 properties right on Levrechio - Tula, Prokopis and the Beach House. Prokopis is the most expensive, but is really nice and has 2 double bedrooms. We sneaked a quick look around it during changeover, when the people who were staying there during our first week left and we were impressed with it.

We made friends with the family that were staying in the Beach House, so we were able to look at that one legitimately :-) It's on the lowest level, so doesn't have the good views that the other 2 have and it's fairly basic, with 1 of the 2 bedrooms being in a kind of outhouse (described in the brochure as an "annexe"!) but the price reflects this and it's good value if you're on a tight budget. Tula is advertised as being for 2-3 people, and has a single bed in the living room, which was made up during our stay, so would be perfectly ok for a family of 3, or 3 good friends. The only drawback is that from the main bedroom you have to walk through the living room to get to the bathroom. However, it's perfect for a couple and is a really lovely location - highly recommended.

The kitchen is on the lower terrace level and has the fairly basic kitchen equipment that you expect to find in Greece but plenty of cupboard space. The terrace outside the kitchen is a perfect suntrap during the afternoon and is very private and secluded.

Unique Qualities: Wonderful views of the beach a few yards away and just a short stagger back from Loggos at night!
