Heeia State Park is a neat little park that provides great photo opps of Kaneohe Bay. Located off kamehameha Highway (46-465 Kamehameha Highway, Kane‘ohe) Right before Heeia pier. You can get great pictures of Kaneohe Bay and the Koolau mountain range, the whole kaneohe, bay Waikalau fish pond built over a thousand years ago,Heeia pier, China Mans Hat island, and Coconut island.
Located off Kealohi point, you are right in the middle of Kaneohe bay, surounded by reefs and beautiful ocean colors. Anyone who loves to take pictures, needs to visit this park.

From Honolulu, take H1 hwy West bound to Likelike hwy. Once over the mountain, take a left at the 2nd light which is Kamehameha hwy. Travel about 2 miles down Kamehameha hwy and its on your right before Heeia pier.

On the Windward side of Oahu, in the small town of Kaneohe, is the stairway hike called "Stairway to Heaven". Its over 4500 stairs that take you from the bottom of the Koolau mountain range, to the top. The Koolau mountains are the mountains that run through the middle of the island, and seperate the Windward side of the island from the Leeward side. From atop the Koolau mountains, you get a birds eye view of both sides of the island.
The climb takes about 3 to 4 hours depending on your pace. i've seen some people do it faster but those people nearly ran the stairs. Be very careful when you do this climb. The stairs get very slippery when wet, and some parts of the stairs are litterally straight up. This is an "Enter at your own risk hike" not for the faint hearted.
The stairs were built by the united states goverment over 60 years ago ( over 4500 stairs) for a communications out-post based on top the mountain. Before the steel stairs, there were wooden stairs, which you can still see on your way up.
The sites you will see along the climb make for some of the best pictures of Hawaii, from a view not everyone can say they have seen. If you thought the Pali look out was amazing, this will blow you away.
Have fun on this hike, and be safe. Bring lots of water, and be prepared for a very exhausting climb.....Aloha
Directions- From Waikiki, take H1 West to Likelike Highway towards Kaneohe. Once on the Windward side, take Kahekili Highway towards North Shore. At the third trafic light, take a left on to Kahuhipa St. then go up the street and take your first left up Hokulele. Go all the way up the hill to the end of the road and take that last right. Immediately on your left, you will see an access road. Park on the street and walk up that road where you will find a gate. Go through the whole in the gate and turn right onto the access road. Walk about a Half mile and you will find the trail on your left.
