The Food When you think of Oaxaca (if you ever do) the first thing that should come to mind is the food. Mole', chapulines (grasshoppers), queso, chocolate...Oaxaca is famous for its food culture. |
| A typical colonial church, just off the Zocalo |
The Architecture The old town center was laid out by the Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century and still retains much of its colonial charm. Wander around the old center, take in the atmosphere of the zocalo, pop into the Cathedral to get out of the heat (or rain, or cold) |

The Art Pottery, blanket weaving, jewelry, painting and sculpture can all be found in this city and the surrounding villages. Take a trip out of Oaxaca to see the "Blanket Weaving Village" or the "Black Pottery Village", or just wander around the city center and visit the many art galleries showing creations by local crafts-workers and famous Mexican artists. |
