Cruise to Alaska

by kandl1 - last update: Jan 19, 2006

Ports of Call

Fjords
Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway and Wrangell?
4 cities, each with a distinct personality.
We were on a Norwegian Cruise Line round-trip from Vancouver BC for 7 days. It was amazing. The cruise experience was fine, food was decent and there was plenty to do on the ship, but I was more interested in the Alaskan towns that we?d be visiting.
From the touristy jewelry shops in Skagway to the quiet small-town charm of Wrangell, we tried to get off the tour-group paths and see a little of what is NOT on the ?must see? lists that the cruise ships promote.

For example: We did NOT buy any Tanzanite in Skagway, but we went into the Skagway fish company for some local flavor and fresh fish. In Wrangell we visited the local church and sampled some of the home-made fry bread that they were selling to raise money for the community. I?ll add a brief paragraph of each town as I build this page, and I?ll try to post as many pictures so that you can get an impression of the size and beauty of the scenery.
