Singapore In a Nutshell (or Durian) An 18 hour flight?! Are you kidding me? Oh well, the things I do for love. The wife was on another one of her famous business trips, and yet again, I joined her at the end. We had 4 days and five nights together and only a handful of "must see" items on the list: Raffles Hotel, NIght Safari, Little India, Arab Street and (oh yes!) Chili Crab. We could actually do all of that in one day. We found plenty to do. Our hotel (the Regent) was a block away from Orchard road, so the location was perfect. Quiet, but close to the action. Four Seasons hotels owns the Regent, so we got to experience that high level of service and luxury...and let me tell you, we could get used to it. We walked up and down orchard road, visited Little India (wifey bought a sari), had a singapore sling at Raffles Long Bar and walked through the fountain of wealth. We took a river cruise, walked up and down the quays, and ate at the satay club. That was all on day 1! On day 2, we visited arab street, shopped for, and bought, silk, ate a traditional Malaysian/Halal lunch at Zam Zam restaraunt and did the Night Safari tour. Day 3 we went to chinatown and bought a digital camera on orchard street...and we had "THE CHILI CRAB!!!" We went to the UDMC (east coast) seafood center. Ate jumbo crab at jumbo seafood restaurant. On day 4 went back to little india and also saw the holland village area. We ended up eating dinner in the basement of the Takashimaya department store in Ngee Ann City, on Orchard road. It was here that we tried the dreaded durian. |
