by Witinha - last update: May 30, 2004

Mérida was established in the year 25 a.C. "Augusta Emerita" (latin) was transformed into the cultural and economic capital of the most ocidental Rome's province: the Lusitânia.

Mérida lost its importance with the Moorish people. Today the city still have many roman monuments.
