I advise you to take your best pair of legs with you because this bell-tower museum is spread out over 12 storey's who are in nature of things connected by ... stairs. The mere very panoramic view of it, in case of bright weather stretch out as far as the Kemmelberg (Heuvelland) and the IJzertoren (Diksmuide), makes the climb well worth the effort.
On the way you get an absorbing survey of the bells-history, the ingenuity of automatic systems of chimes and the timepiece mechanism.
On the second floor kids can test there talents on the carillon player key-board that is in connection with the chimesbarrel. You don't have music talents in your fingers? Before you know where you are, on the key-board are colors fit in with the notes on the scores. In this way everybody is able to play a tune. In the top sits the carillon player. Did you know Roeselare has an chimesclass and it 's a part of the Royal Chimesschool?
Striking is also on church holidays and special occasions there are still 4 chime-bells manually sounded.
