Turkey - the country

Turkey is really a paradise of sun, sea, mountains and lakes that offer us holidaymakers a complete rest. When you visit this country, you will come back refreshed and relaxed and definately with a lovely tan.

Turkey is 814,758km in total. The European and Asian regions are seperated by the Bospherus, the Sea of Marmara and the Canakkale Bogazi.In the north you have the mountains along the Black Sea coast and in the south you have the Taurus mountains sweeping down to the coast. It has a coastline of approx 8000km, so pick your beach!

Although Turkey is 99% Muslim, they guarantee complete freedom of worship to non-Muslims.

When to visit:-
The best times to visit the coast is during summer months June to Sept, but beware it can become extremely hot.

What to wear:
Ensure that you pack light, cotton summer clothing with maybe a light cardigan for the evenings. Comfortable shoes is a necessity if you are going to visit the archeological and historical sites. Sun hats, sunglasses and sun protection is a must. Headscarves should be brought should you want to visit any of the mosques.

How to get there:-
By Air - regular flights from all major cities come to Turkey
By Sea - various cruises dock at the Turkish ports and you also have ferries from Venice, Ancona, Brindisi and Bari to Istanbul, Izmir, Cesme, Kusadasi, Marmaris and Antalya

Custom regulations:-
Exporting items of antiquity from Turkey is forbidden, ensure that you have proof of purchase for new carpets bought and for old items that you have a certificate from a directorate of a museum.

Tax refund, you can receive a refund of the Value Added Tax paid on goods purchased in the country, the minimum amount that qualifies is 5,000,000TL.

Coins are in denominations of 25,000 and 50,000 and 100,000 lira and ban notes are of 250,000 500,000 1,000,000 5,000,000 10,000,000 and 20,000,000 lira.
