Founded in 947 by one of the tribute collectors sent by Princess Olga from Kiev. This is the site of one of Russia?s many mysteries ? the death of Prince Dmitry, the younger son of Ivan the Terrible. The young prince was taken away from Moscow to this back water town where it was felt that he would be better protected against the somewhat irregular practices of the medieval courts of Muscovy. The child died as a result of knive wounds believed to have been inflicted by Boris Godunov in order to elimanate him from succession to the throne. To quote a guidebook ?The city of Uglich is not in the present, it all lives in the past"

Yes, Mariana, Uglich is nor less interesting then Istra. I've been there several times but long ago. I'vn't color photos and I'm not plannining to make my own page. So thank you for bringing back memories! Your page is good!
