Budapest

Overview

Downtown Pest
On my first visit to this city, everyone still referred to Buda & Pest as it had just opened to the west. I found it very intruiging, this bohemian city with so much to offer and totally devided by the river.
Budapest offers breathtaking Old World grandeur and thriving cultural life. Situated on both banks of the Danube River, the city unites the colorful hills of Buda and the wide, businesslike boulevards of Pest. Much of the charm of a visit to Budapest is in the glimpses into shadowy courtyards down sunlit cobbled streets.
Hungary is famous for its medicinal spas, and Budapest alone has some 14 historic working baths. They attract everyone from ailing patients to tourists, all of whom want to soak in the relaxing waters and experience some therapeutic treatments.

There's plenty to do in Budapest, but some visitors travel southwest to explore the spa resorts, vineyards, and quaint villages that dot the area around Lake Balaton -- the largest lake in Central Europe .... see my page on Heviz for more info

2008

To quote my friend " In Krakow we had the ABC tour (Another bloody church/cathedral/castle), in Budapest it was followed with ABB tour (another bloody building), but what spectacular ones! Artisans of yonder days must have spent years completing the figures, busts and heads of man and animal. Lions are very prominent, although I don't know if any live ones were ever seen in those days outside Africa"
Budapest was still to me the lovely city, I met in 2002. Only getting better.
