This is a city loved by art lovers who call it the Golden City of High Baroque and music lovers who calls it the Festival City. This is the birthplace of Mozart and home of the world-famous Salzburger Festspiele (Salzburg Festival). Salzburg lies on both banks of the Salzach River, where the river flows through the Kapuzinerberg and the Munchsberg mountains. Salzburg got its name from the Salt mines in the region.
|
| | Salzburg The renowned Festspiele were founded in 1920, and has been held every year since then. Salzburg becomes a music mecca from July to September. On opening eve, 100 dancers dressed up in regional costumes perform a torch dance on the Residenzplatz.

The Sound of Music This 1964 musical classic about the von Trapp family had everyone living at the time in awe about this lovely city. I remember the huge impact the church with the nuns had on me. Today this city still makes the most of The Sound of Music and uses it to promote itself very well.
