There are many walks around Greyton and into the surrounding nature reserve with its birdlife and fynbos. When you enter this village, you are reminded of an olde English village almost. The main street is line with majestic old oak trees and ?lei? water canals carrying mountain water into the residents many ponds. This village offers you lots of space to do many things, ultra fresh air, tranquility, peace and last but not least quiet.

Off The Beaten Path: Riebeeck Wes
  • Tip Rating:
  • Riebeek Wes is situated 4km from Riebeek Kasteel on the R311 in the direction of Moorreesburg and is closely linked with Riebeek Kasteel. Riebeek Wes, like Riebeek Kasteel used to be a district of the Swartland congregation of the Dutch Reformed Church at Malmesbury, but later became independent. Riebeek Wes is noted for the fact that two of South Africa's major political figures were born here. General Smuts was born on the farm Bovenplaas in the 1870 and Dr DF Malan on the farm Allesverloren.

Off The Beaten Path: Riebeeck Kasteel
  • Tip Rating:
  • This town is situated on the R311 about 75km NNE of Cape Town. Situated on the slopes of the Kasteelberg (Castle Mountain), a 946m high solitary rock of Table Mountain sandstone, sentinal amidst the rolling wheatfields and vineyards of the Swartland, the tranquil village of Riebeek Kasteel is covered in the softest hues of pink and white during spring when the peach orchards are in bloom. Riebeek Kasteel was named after Jan van Riebeeck and the Kasteelberg. The name Riebeek Kasteel appears for the first time in the journal of the surgeon, Pieter van Meerhof, in 1661 while he was on a discovery expedition.

    Off The Beaten Path: Paarl
  • Tip Rating:
  • Paarl is the town where the Afrikaans language was "born". This is also the hometown of KWV, our best known wine exporter and which untill very recently you could not buy in this country as all the wine was exported. An interesting town to visit taking the N1 north approx 72 kilometers away from Cape Town,

    Wine Region: Fairview Wine Farm
  • Tip Rating:
  • When you do the Paarl wineroute, make sure that you do not miss Fairview. Not only do they make lovely wines, but they also make the most devine goats cheeses that you can test on the premises and buy there.

If you go from CT to Paarl on the N1, you take the Klapmuts turnoff just before Paarl and then turn to your left. Follow the roadmarkings.
