  • Ceres is one of those little villages in South Africa that everyone loves to visit. It is particularly popular in wintertime due to the snow it receives and its close proximately to Cape Town.
During winter when snowfalls occur which are low and heavy enough to be reached by road please contact the Ceres Tourism Bureau who will advise you on the best routes, to avoid damage to vehicles and farmer's properties when visiting the snow. Alternately take a 4x4 Bedford ride into the snow in the Matroosberg Nature Reserve (Tel: Cordré Smith: (023) 3122282).

    Things To Do: Togryers Museum

  • The name "Togryers Museum" originated from the great influence that the transport riders had on the development of Ceres. The completion of Michell's Pass in 1848 made the town accessible to wagons, and the main routes to the diamond fields passing through Ceres. This lasted until the railway line to the north by-passed Ceres.

In the museum the visitor can see a collection of wagons that were used in Ceres during the period 1880 - 1940. Some of the interesting wagons on display are: - a spider, half-tent wagon, hearse and two Cape carts. The other collections include the earthquake of 1969, the midwife in the early 20th century, and some equipment used by furriers and wagon makers. The museum also has an interesting collection of Africana books.

Monday to Friday 9:00 - 13:00 and 14:00 - 17:00, Saturdays 9:00 - 12:00 in the summer months and on request during the winter months. Tel. (023) 3122045
