Founded by Eumenes 11, king of Pergamum, the city owes its name to the wife of Telephos, legendary founder of Pergamum.
This city founded around a subterranean cavern, qualified plutonian which was a religious centre developed, beginning from the hellenistic age and became an important place.
It became a site for excavations in 1887 and it is still continueing. The artifacts found are exhibited in the two halls of a Roman pool used now as a museum.
This place is entirely covered by travertine, which resembles a castle covered in cotton. It is located approx 18 km to the east of Denizli. One use to be able to climb the ruins, but it has been limited due to excessive damaged done over the years.
The play of colours during sunset is a real phenomena of nature and something that stays with you forever I would think.
The spring waters that feed these formations contain limestone substances and an abundance of carbon dioxide. These clear water (35 degrees C) flow over the rocks leaving their residue behind, which whiten the rocks.
- In a nutshell:Fantastic
