Marseille

by mvtouring - last update: Oct 16, 2005

This was our first port of call during our cruize on the Splendour of the Seas. Marseille is located in the region of Provence. Its fantastic country side has inspired paintings of Paul Cezanne and Vincent van Gogh.
Marseille is the capital of this beautiful region and it is also the second largest city in France. It remains the largest port city in the Med.
We took a half day excursion and our first port of call was the Vieux Port which is the oldest harbor as well as the heart of Marseille. after the port we also visited the Notre-dame de la Garde, a beautifull cathedral poised on top of a hill which offers you a splendid view over the city

Thanks Mariana for refreshing sweet memories about this beautiful city! I had only an hour to climb the Notre Dame de la Garde hill. Drivers are moving there along the wrong side of the road (as well as in Moscow I should say!)
