It has a railway station

Bletchley was never really a place I visited when I lived in Milton Keynes. Although I do remember getting a few days work there through an employment agency during a University summer vacation.

It does have a separate railway station and shopping centre.

Most famous for.....?

The photograph is a big hint. During World War II, Bletchley Park was the home of Station X. (Also known as The Government Code and cypher School).

Ciphers and codes of several Axis countries were decrypted there, most importantly ciphers generated by the German Enigma and Lorenz machines.

The high-level intelligence produced at Bletchley Park, codenamed Ultra, provided crucial assistance to the Allied war effort and is credited with having shortened the war by two years, so saving many lives. However, Ultra's precise influence is still studied and debated.

Bletchley Park is a museum run by the Bletchley Park Trust; open to the public. The Manor House is available for functions. Part of the income charged for hiring the venue goes to the Trust for use in maintaining the museum.
