London Off The Beaten Path

Off The Beaten Path: East London's Interesting feature
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Wanted, one long term user! It seems that this is now no longer the case. The Millenium Dome is now called the O2 Arena and is a very busy enteratinment facility - many restaurants and cafes. I attended a performance of Andre Heller's Afrika Afrika - oddly, we had to wlak through the whole complex and then out the back doors to see the show which was being held in a 2000 seat circus tent and with associated tented restaurant and bar facilities.

  • The Finnish Church in London is located in East London - a short walk from both Canada Water and Rotherhithe Underground Stations.

The address of the Church, centre and a wonderful food shop is - 33 Albion Street, Rotherhithe, London, SE16 7HZ. The shop and cafe does not open until 15.00, but remains open until 21.00. This is an ideal place to buy your fazer chocolate and seasonal foodstuffs.

I think the Finnish Saturday school is still based there.

Off The Beaten Path: Victoria Tower Gardens
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Victoria Tower Gardens is a public park along the north bank of the River Thames - as it's name suggests, it is adjacent to the Victoria Tower, the south-western corner of the Palace of Westminster. The park extends south from the Palace to Lambeth Bridge, sandwiched between Millbank and the river, also forms part of the Thames Embankment.

Off The Beaten Path: The Reformers Tree in Hyde Park
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • I appreciate that Hyde Park is fairly central - however, I suspect that many of us have walked through it and not actually seen many of the more interesting or bizarre features of the park.

Around the mosaic, there is an inscription. However it is so long, I found myself walking around it 3 times to read the whole thing!

Off The Beaten Path: Speakers Corner
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • This is yet another fairly central location in London - however I can imagine that many people do not make this a focal point for visiting London or even Hyde Park itself.

Off The Beaten Path: Norwegian Monument in Hyde Park
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Once again I came across this memorial in Hyde Park after a bit of a walk. It is quite close to the Serpentine. It was erected in 1978 by the Royal Norwegian Navy and the Norwegian Merchant Fleet in thanks for the hospitality and support offered to their seamn during WWII.
