The City of Oxford

I had previously only been through Oxford Railway Station - however, I have now had a pleasant September Saturday in the city.

It was quite pleasant and not quite what I expected. Although I have to say I did not really know what I should expect! It can't all be murders, looking glasses and hobbits; and as it happened it does seem to have more about it than we may all think!

The jounrey from Paddington Station, London took only 50 minutes and the return cost £20 per adult.

An architectural city

It seems that Oxford is full of gems from different architectural periods. The image here is the Bridge of Sighs - named after the more famous bridge in Venice, Italy.

The bridge was designed in 1913, by Sir Thomas Jackson, to link the Old and New Quads of Hertford College. They are seperated by New College Lane. The bridge was named Hertford Bridge, but no one calls it by it's name but the Bridge of Sighs due to a passing resemblance to the other better known Venetian structure.

The city has much to offer for those of an architectural mind and interest.

After a long day, the tourists are exhausted!

It seems that if you spend long enough in any toursit city, and you keep your eyes open you see the same people time and time again. The poor chap shown travelled on the train from Paddington with us, and throughout the day we crossed paths at various spots.

He seems to have become quite tired out at this point. This was taken late on saturday afternoon and it was located just beyond the Bridge of Sighs.

If the subject of the photograph reads this, let me know and I can give you a name check and credit for appearing here.
