I've lived in Scotland all my life, and I love it. I was brought up near Troon, and still think of it as home. Troon is a small town on the Ayrshire coast with good rail links to Glasgow and south to Ayr . It's an excellent place for a holiday - good hotels and restaurants nearby, golf courses, tennis, horseriding, national cycle network and of course the lovely beach.
