Warm, sunny Palma

Me on Playa Cala Mayor

Christopher who?

Being an Australian, all I ever knew about Palma was that it is where Christopher and Pixie Skase exiled themselves to in the early 90's. It always looked beautiful on the TV (when the media were chasing him) and once I visited myself, I could see the reason why someone would want to spend their life here!

We went to Palma for our anniversary and were told not to expect much. It was may be because of this warning that we had a fantastic time and really loved the city! As opposed to Positano (and much like back home) we stayed in a hotel right on the beach and found everyone very friendly and the accommodation and food very cheap. The beach, in fact, was beautiful – real sand, waves, warm water and real people (instead of the rich, way too glamorous types!). The food (especially the Paella) was very good value for money and the service always friendly. We almost got ripped off once when we ventured into the town centre, but I wasn’t sure if the burger stand owner was deliberately giving us back less change or he was genuine. Either way, I got all my money back!
Catedral o la Seu
Whilst there, we visited the town centre and made our way through some of its back streets and out to the Cathedral. We did a lot of window shopping and grazing at the numerous sidewalk cafes and lovely cheap restaurants. The food was sublime and we ate very well all weekend.
