Flashy Cars on Greenleaf Ave. in uptown Whittier
If you are in the Los Angeles area and want to have a unique shopping experience, the city of Whittier is worthy to visit for its uptown area. You can enjoy the city for its distinctly Latino flavor, not only savored at the many Mexican eateries but in shops selling artistic Aztec souvenirs, Frida Khalo replicas and countless other trinkets.

Outside of shopping, uptown Whittier is simply a fun, local place to be. The heart of this zone is on Greenleaf Ave where there is a weekly Farmer's Market. Young people mix in with the older crowd to make the place especially vibrant and interesting.

Catch a Movie Uptown

What a quaint place to see a film! Usually, the mainstream movies play here. It's only $6 for a matinee showing. I love the greenish shade of the marquee!

Whittier has been home to (previously) ...

Pat Nixon (former First Lady of the US)
Nomar Garciaparra (fine baseball player of the great LA Dodgers :-)
Eric Stoltz (actor)
Tina Yothers (actress- remember Family Ties?)
Stacy Ferguson (a.k.a. Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas)
Martika (singer)
Kathy Hilton (yes, mother of Paris and Nicky, all of whom with stakes in Hilton Hotel fortune!)

Pros:"intimate shopping, Latino culture with diverse poulation, nice hills"
Cons:"some parts are underdeveloped, not as attractive or charming"
In A Nutshell:"Worth seeing especially for unique shopping and an interesting local experience in the greater Los Angeles area!"
