Ballyhoo of Malibu (& shades of Pacific Palisades)

by marinarena - last update: Mar 16, 2007

Two pretty and wealthy towns really as one

Malibu, hilly beach town
Malibu- she's super pretty, rich, spoiled, conceited - and yet, still manages to keep some modesty! This can be said of Pacific Palisades (which is really a district of Los Angeles but is soooooooooooooo far removed from the heart of L.A. in just about all senses that she will presented with Malibu here :-)

So, as for the modesty. It is not seen in the multi-million dollars mansions (of the super wealthy and famous, including celebrities like Cher, Barbara Steisand, Britney (bite me) Spears and the like)- rather, in the very local estalblishments like cafes, surf and gift shops. Not everything is expensive here and not everyone is super rich. Besides the college students who are barely making it with scholarships, there is a population of modest people who scrap enough to be here, living in motor homes and quaint apartments.

Native American Interest

Originally, the well-productive Chumash Indians settled here over 4,000 years ago and named the land "Humaliwo" , which translates as "the surf sounds loudly". The striking clamor of the Spanish proved louder for the Chumash, forcing the natives out in in 1700s. Eventually in the 1930s, the land was sold in lots to rich movie stars of Hollywood and ever since, all kinds of celebs and a great variety of the elite class have set up to stay here.

Getty Villa!

Oh. so much to come here including more pics!! A review of the new Getty Villa is sure to come- that is,whenever I can land some tickets, especially for the weekend!

...all of this in the introduction without any mention of Mel Gibson -whoops, just did it!

Pros:"dear- charming especially in small, local spots. Also, the new Getty Villa in PP is sure to attract art lovers, romantic views"
Cons:"dear- expensive, that is! Also, the smell of arrogance from the crazy rich and, oh, and the roads can be very curvy!"
In A Nutshell:"The most exclusive, expensive parts of greater L.A."
