Amoeba Records: Murals at Amoeba

Crowds, mostly teens to those in the 20s gather here in the evening. Of course, you'll find old fart philes too flipping through all of the goodies in the aisles. As one with an artistic eye, I could not overlook the colorful murals along the exterior peripheral. (See pics)

Amoeba: OK, this is the original Music Heaven in Hollywood

Amoeba is a beloved staple in funky Hollywood. Thousands come in to find treasures in recorded music on CD, vinyl and tapes, and in addition, there is a wide collection of music memorablia items from which to choose. There are also a good number of films on dvd and video. All kinds of music lovers can be satisfied here. Rock of all kinds is favored but there are huge sections of jazz, classical, dance, hip hop and various world music. If you are a music junkie like me, this place will be like a second home. I've made trips here exclusively for selling CDs in order to get some fast cash.

There is a hard-to-miss liberal atmosphere and attitude here. Conservatives beware!

There are often concerts by indie acts that occur in -store. However, in recent years, the most hyped performance here was by Paul McCartney.

Note that there are no public restrooms in-store due to the nature of Hollywood.

Parking garage is connected to store. rates vary but is $1-2 for an hour. If you can manage, take the Metro Red Line or bus here (MTA bus 2, 702)

Other Amoeba locations are in northern CA.

What to pay: bargain cds can be as low as a buck, collectable posters on the walls and other memorabilia here can be from $10-hundreds of dollars
