n the recommendation of a friend in Las Vegas, we searched out Milo's for our post-dam meal. Sitting in the shade in the wine bar, muching on good food, with fantastic company .... yup, this was a great day :)

I also have to add this is the first time in history (I THINK) that a VT wedding was followed by a VT honeymoon!!

Boulder City is about 33 miles from the dam, so is a great place to stop, wander and eat!

In 1930, the barren desert near the future Hoover Dam became a worker's camp .... and a place for the many jobless is the nation to try and find work. This community was a combination of official worker's homes, and squatter camps. After the completion of the Dam project in 1935, the community was to be demolished. No one expected the former dam workers to WANT to stay out here in the hot desert ... but that is what the families wanted to do and demolition was suspended while the government tried to figure out what to do. It took decades to formally incorporate this town and remove it from total federal control. In 1960, Boulder City was official, and it's new life as a real town began.

I honestly am one of those folks who just 'pass through' the town on my way to or from Las Vegas ... passing over the Hoover Dam in the process. This little VT meet allowed me to finally experience the dam, and the tourist town of Boulder City!
