Hot tubs are wonderful .... Rocks, broken abalone shells, giant tree-like driftwood piles, albatross, seagulls, osprey and tracks of wild critters ... Point Arena is not only a wonderful place to wander, but also a peaceful place to remember my family's past and contemplate my future.
If you prefer the chilly Pacific, there are many turn outs with paths down the cliffs to the beach. Sea Lions can be heard all around this part of the coast - they yell out, probably to say -'get lost you humans, this place is ours!'. |
| | Point Arena Pier The pier is used by private as well as commercial fishermen, and can be very active during the salmon run.
Behind this view, is a 2 story mall-like building. The restaruant at the top is good, the pizza parlor on the first floor is a local hang out for teens. My favorite place to obtain items from local artists is at the corner farthest from the pier - it's name escapes me right now. Many local artists who work in oils, watercolors, and other media display and sell their wares in this space. It's a wonderful blend of cooky and high end items.
The pier is the location for a wonderful 4th of July Fireworks display. A barge is placed off the coast, and folks from all over the area come to play. Though I have lived in cities both big and small, this fireworks show is my absolute favorite! |
My home away from home .... I feel so peaceful when I'm in Point Arena and the surrounding region. I don't know if it is because my family helped found the area back in the 1800's, or if it is because of the beauty. This is a picture from the Manchester Cemetary. Manchester is north of Point Arena along Hwy 1. Downtown Manchester is a grocery store and a gas station {though Caitlinette has let me know there isn't a gas station there now} :) There is a KOA in Manchester, it has camping cabins, and is filled with trees. After I had stayed in this campground a few times, I discovered that my Great Uncle Joe had planted every one of the trees in the campground! There are more than 100 trees, and it is a wonderful place to stay. I have a thing for old cemetaries, and since this one contains some ancestors, it is special to me. Locals call this monument 'Dr. Davis' Angel'. Dr Davis was a town doctor who cared for my great aunt's and uncles as children. This angel is beautiful ...... | | |
