A spectacular spectacle & a very Grand Canyon

by kymbanm - last update: Feb 12, 2007

How can I ever PRESUME to capture the wonder of Grand Canyon in a simple photograph? There is a definite 'WOW' factor (as BerniShand would say), but there is so much more! The sheer vastness ... the natural beauty ... the play of shadow and light .... the altitude .... all combine to simply take your breath away. Yes, it's a hole in the ground - but it's a spectacular hole :)

Over time, water ... just water (okay and some wind too) combined to carve this spectacle from the earth .... later this water was harnessed to create electricity for several states. But the original force has left it's mark. Yup, I can see WHY this is considered one of the 7 natural wonders of the world.
Fathers and Daughers .... and a major view!
I only live about a 6 hour drive from Grand Canyon ... and drive within an hour of it several times a year .... but hadn't made the time to wander all the way too it ... too much of a hurry I guess. Plans changed this week, and at the last minute I invited Dad to join me on an overnight road trip to Grand Canyon. It seemed fitting; after all, I hadn't been since he took me when I was about 10 years old. That time we were on a multi state southwestern camping excursion in our 19-foot Midas motor home; Grand Canyon is one of my favorite memories of that summer. So much has changed in the decades since that particular trip, one big change is my father's health. I am so blessed that he survived several heart attacks, and a huge stroke ... and I"m blessed he agreed to join me this weekend as we explored our neighboring state of Arizona! The Road Trip Warrior and his eldest princess wandering about again :)
Wow! I've worked like the dickens and have my initial tips DONE! Okay, I DO want to write more about some things, but the bones are there. Thanks for your patience, and enjoy what I've got up so far ... more to follow .... eventually :)

I can't wait to see it for myself, Kymba! We had to reschedule for April, so we'll see some of the crowds you warned us about. Excellent page--very nice tips!

Looks like you had a great time and took some awesome pictures. Did your shoes turn pink?

My goal is to go to the bottom of the canyon one day too :o) And the cafeteria food is quite good, isn't it? I was surprised. Thanks for the memories, Kymba !
