I chose this hotel online and had just found VT - so had no clue what I was doing. I did well! This hotel is beautiful, and even though I got a discounted room, with no view I might add, the room was a decent size and of wonderful quality. The linens were heavenly too ;) Two grown women traveling to Europe for the first time, with waaay too much luggage, and there was still plenty of room! I have to say the staff was wonderful -definitely customer service professionals. We arrived about 7 hours before check in, hoping to leave our luggage at the desk and begin touring, and we were allowed to actually check in at that time! Every employee of the hotel was friendly, helpful and kind ... a great start to our travels abroad.
Unique Qualities: The location was perfect. It's across a canal and a road from Centraal Station. A short walk from Red Light, adjacent to Damraak, and a jaunt away from Dam Square. For being clueless, I was so very pleased with everything about this hotel's presentation, location, and service.

On our way home from Ireland, our flight from Dublin to Amsterdam was delayed .... though we arrived in time to make the flight, our bags wouldn't. So KLM decided to put us up for the night .... and this was the location they chose. I cried, and cried somemore, as I thought this 24 hour delay would prevent me from seeing my little sister before she left for her first year at college .... fortunately, I reached my family and they changed their plans. Only then could I enjoy this little, unexpected, return to Amsterdam.
Unique Qualities: The location of this hotel is wonderful, though we arrived at 2200, and were leaving about 12 hours later, we took time to walk about the Museumplein .... watching folks visit, play basketball, and other park related activities. We wandered over to the Rijksmuseum to see it with the night lighting, cruised the canals to watch the swans and other local life..... a wonderful way to wind down. Our KLM vouchers for the hotel provided us with free shuttle service between Schippol and the hotel, free dinner, free breakfast, and of course the free meal. We enjoyed our dinner immensly! Delicious is the simplest word to use ... we also enjoyed visiting with the staff in the resaturant and the bar ... friendly, open people - again impressed with the staff of this hotel chain. Again, wonderful room, and heavenly linens ..... I'm thinking I'll be trying to stay at this chain of hotels again in the future :)

TheTravelSlut Tue Jul 17, 2007 03:53 UTC Great Amsterdam tips and photos. Good timing too since I'll be there in a couple weeks! Thanks. Ann, The Travel Slut | Nemorino Thu May 3, 2007 21:24 UTC Glad to hear you had two nice visits to Amsterdam, on the way and on the way back. I spent a few days there last year (last May, in fact, though it doesn't feel like that long ago) and had a great time cycling all around. | christine.j Tue Sep 26, 2006 13:48 UTC You're so right about the need to look up and see all the details. | RoyJava Sun May 14, 2006 07:07 UTC Wonderful Amsterdam VT Pages,... reading all the fun makes happy feeling, tnq for share, greetzzz RoyJava |
