This is a pretty little town in Telemark of just 30,000 people, theres another town 5 miles up the road which brings the total up to 80,000, but still pretty wee! Its lovely in summer - close to the sea with great swimming (yes it gets warm enough) and loads of georgeous scenery. In winter its pretty good for skiing, especially if you like cross country. Alpin ski slopes are a couple of hours drive away with limited facilities compared to other European resorts, but still pretty good at times. Its not really an area that see a lot of foreign tourists, but the Norwegians love coming down from the Oslo area, 2 hours drive away, for a bit of country air. |
Typical pretty fishing village of Risor on the south coast of telemark. |
To a well off Norwegian owning a sailboat is almost as essential as having a Mercedes in the driveway! We actually have a friend at work who lived in a 50 foot sailboat for 4 years! |
