George and Dragon [Recommended]
2 Hackney Rd, E2 Tel 0207 012 1100
Slightly off the Shoreditch beaten track, the George & Dragon has become the epicentre of London?s gay fashion crowd. Packed on weekends (Sundays are especially wild), the Scissor Sisters, Wolfgang Tilsman and Hedi Slimane have all been spotted. Butt magazine recently staged an exhibition here.
110 Commercial St, London, E1 Tel 0207 247 2158
A real London boozer, the Golden Heart boasts real fires, eccentric locals and the best landlady East of the river. As Tracy Emin?s favourite hang out, it also has custom-made neon artwork by the Turner Prize winner and regular visitors from the art crowd.
Great Eastern [Recommended]
40 Liverpool St, EC2 Tel 0207 618 5000
Out of favour for a while, this summer saw the Great Eastern Hotel become the place to party once again. The reason? Exclusive impromptu Libertines gigs and The Streets performing live all in their indoors beach party. Who knows what they?ve got coming up next.
93 Leonard Street, EC2 020 7739 6719
A real East End boozer that sometimes hosts bigger events ? like last summer?s charming folk fest ? and regular Saturday jumble sales. When in normal guise, it?s where locals like Samantha Morton catch up on gossip and check out each others? outfits.
12 Carlton House Terrace, SW1 Tel 0207 930 3647
Staying open past most art galleries? bed time, the ICA is a bar as well as a gallery space. Known for their challenging work in contemporary art, they recently had a jumble sale as an exhibition. They are no less innovative in their club nights. Expect the unexpected.
Lancaster Terrace, W2 020 7551 6070
Opened last year, hotel, restaurant and bar Island is so-called because it is based on a island of land near Lancaster Gate. Overlooking Hyde Park, the bar will appeal to Wallpaper-style minimalists while its cocktails ? including the creamy New Forest Gateaux ? will keep the party girls happy.
6-18 Beak St, W1 Tel 0870 780 8181
This is the new Kaberet. Boasting the David Collins touch, the bar features 3900 Swarovski crystals. Natasha Law (sister of Jude) provides illustrations while Electric Stew?s Nathan Gregory Wilkins DJs. As one of the lucky hundred inside, you might even end up dancing with a supermodel.
1a Camden High Street, NW1 0870 432 5527
Once the site of skuzzy Camden Palace, Koko arrived last year to renovate NW1. It seems to be working. A key night is Friday's Club NME. Showcasing new bands to their well-dressed followers, Hedi Slimane has been known to be in the audience.
Lock Tavern [Recommended]
35 Chalk Farm Road, NW1 020 7482 7163
Once a fairly unassuming pub on Chalk Farm Rd, the Lock Tavern has been renovated recently and gained a new crowd. Regularly hosting parties for Vice magazine and DJ gigs from Jarvis Cocker, the roof garden is where to hang out.
1 Whitby St, E2 Tel 0207 012 1234
From the brains behind one-off restaurant Les Trois Gar?ons, LoungeLover is a bit of the Far East in London?s East End. Celebrities and the fashion crowd alike return for unsurpassed cocktails and an incredible interior. Simply glamorous.
8 Brewer St, W1 Tel 0207 734 3040
A classic London venue, Madame JoJos is a remnant of Soho?s sixties heyday. But it?s not just a trip back in time. The Brewer Street venue hosts caberet but it is also home to performance art from Readers? Wives and aftershow parties from Eley Kishimoto.
No5 Cavendish Square
5 Cavendish Square, W1 020 7079 5000
Taking luxe socialising to another level, No 5 should only be frequented by those with bulging wallets. The lucky ones (like Eminem) can indulge in fizz at nearly a grand a bottle and can even rent a room to stay in if you have one too many.
The Old Blue Last
39 Great Eastern St, EC2 Tel 0207 739 5793
This Shoreditch based pub is the latest place to call your local. Recently bought by so-hip-it-hurts Vice magazine, they haven?t changed the original thirties interiors. The clientele, however, has shifted from city boys to a style-obsessed set enjoying DJ sets from bands including Ladytron and The Duke Spirit. Saturday hosts a supercute jumble sale.
1 Aldwych, WC2 020 7300 1070
Recently voted one of London?s top five hotel bars, this new addition to a well-worn fashion crowd circuit has it all: cocktails that will impress even the most jaded party girl, stunning airy interior and irresistible bar food for late night snacking with friends.
The Red Lion [Recommended]
41 Hoxton St, N1 Tel 0207 739 3736
From the same people that gave us the Bricklayer?s Arms and 333, the pint-sized Red Lion has reopened and looks set to become the drinking hole du jour once again. Steak restaurant RARE upstairs is a bonus.
The Rockwell, The Trafalgar
2 Spring Gardens, SW1 Tel 0207 870 2900
Don?t be surprised if you bump into guests like chic rock chick Melissa Auf De Maur in this hotel bar or there?s an art exhibition happening while you drink. Sleekly designed, it regularly hosts fashion events, where the smart set lounge on low-rise sofas.
Ruby Lounge [Recommended]
33 Caledonian Road, N1 020 7837 9558
A jewel in the otherwise barren King?s Cross, this is the sister bar of the All Saints Road venue. The laidback interior is all red velvet booths and kind lighting. Recently hosting a party for i-D magazine, it?s a stylish pitstop if you?re in the area.
Ruby Lounge and Sequoia
6-8 All Saints Road, W11 020 7243 6363
The recently converted Manor restaurant is far more stylish as the Ruby Lounge. Designed by interiors experts DTWO, the basement is a grotto for grown ups. With wall-mounted chandeliers, red lighting and flocked wallpaper, the sixties old school mood is only lost through a wonderfully modern cocktail list.
The Sanderson [Recommended]
50 Berners St, W1 Tel 0207 300 1400
With surreal surroundings by Philippe Starck and superstar guests like Pharrell Williams, The Sanderson is still at the top of any London cocktail-lover?s list and regularly hosts fashion events. The Long Bar boasts delectable potions which change seasonally. The sumptuous Purple Bar, meanwhile, will be a hit with Martini lovers.
9 Conduit St, W1 Tel 0870 777 4488
Since opening in 2002, Sketch has been a tour de force on the after-dark scene. Founded by Momo boss Mourad Mazouz, it?s just as popular with a fashion crowd. Loved for its inventive d?cor top class cocktails and delectable cakes, everything?s beautiful in Sketch, including the people.
The Tabernacle [Recommended]
55-61 Tabernacle Street, EC2 020 7253 5555
Slightly off the wellworn Shoreditch track, The Tabernacle is deceptive. The upstairs looks like an average bar. It?s downstairs ? a New York-style basement ? where the dancing happens. The likes of Kim Jones and Jonathan Saunders have been known to frequent.
Tea Bar [Recommended*****]
56 Shoreditch High Street, E1 0871 223 5487
An art gallery, living space and bar, the Tea Building is a concept that works. The Tea Bar is a case in point ? hosting the new night Family plus superfun cross-dressing bingo, the gay fashion crowd just can?t get enough of disco hits. Check out the new night Stink on the first Monday of each month - Damian Lazarus with his stylish electro/minimal techno night.
11 Hoxton Square, N1 020 7613 3105
The newest venue on the now-crowded Hoxton Square, it inevitably has the best dressed East Londoners. What's attracting the moths to the flame? Nights like Computer Blue ? an electro fest it?s impossible to resist.

23-27 Wadeson Street, E2 Tel 0208 983 7900
The post-House of Jazz venture for designer Pablo Flack, out-of-the-way Bistrotheque is worth the journey. Ex-partner Hazel Robinson and friend Giles Deacon regularly DJ in one of the bars, which also hosts films and performances. The other mixes old-school decor with damn fine cocktails.
Blue Bar @ The Berkeley
Wilton Place, SW1 Tel 0207 201 1680
Another gem designed by David Collins, this hotel bar has a fun fifties feel to it. As for the drinks on offer, the menu is designed for wine lovers. Wonderfully old school, but with a modern spin, the ?grape and smoke? theme matches wine to cigar.
53 Brook St, W1 Tel 0207 629 8860
A venue of undeniable elegance, the original Art Deco features of Claridges bar have been tweaked by interiors expert, David Collins. With his touch of minimalist magic, they?re now the perfect environs to enjoy a drink. With a capacity of only 45 people, it?s exclusive too.

145 Shoreditch High St, E1 Tel 0207 739 6415
Thursday night electro event at so-bad-it?s-good East London venue. Populated by the area?s hippest kitties, it?s great for sartorial inspiration as well as the hottest sounds. Run by one half of local DJ duo Fat Truckers, guests have included Soulwax, LCD Soundsystem and Jarvis Cocker. George and Dragon
90 Berwick St, London, W1 Tel 0207 437 2944
A once-dodgy West End pub, The Endurance has sharpened up its act. Given a lick of paint and an endearingly retro feel, it?s popular with the glossy crowd and St.Martins students. You never know, you might meet the next McQueen.
198 Shaftesbury Avenue, WC2 020 7240 9933
A basement easy to walk past, once you get downstairs you'll thank Freuds for keeping their bar hidden. This is that rare thing in London: a great bar where you can actually get a seat. While doing so, enjoy their Yum Yums. With fresh nutmeg, milk and rum, they're a bit special.
