Drinking wine on Sacre Coeur steps
I arrived in Paris, not knowing what to expect. I left loving the place.
The first night I was in the City of Love, I sat on the steps of Sacre Coeur drinking French Red wine out of plastic cups, watching the world go by. It is something that I could not possibly recreate anywhere else in the world, especially in Australia as you would be arrested for drinking in public for starters, and on the steps of a church? well that would be just a no no. My first glimpse of the Eiffel Tower was up on top of the hill, and I must say I definately was not disapointed. The French have got it right, light up the tower, and make it beautiful. At this stage, Paris was my first taste of Europe, and it left me longing for more. Had a relatively early night (midnight) and was up early the next day, for the next part of a wonderful visit.
The Lourve at night

The Beauty of Paris

Paris is definately a beautiful city, and full of so much history. From the Place De La Concord where the beheadings were held, to the Notre Dame with its flying buttresses, there is history everywhere. I partook in 2 Fat Tyre Bike tours, a day one and a night one. This is a great way to see the city and get some information without getting sore feet (just a sore bum)(to find out more check out my tips)). This tour took us from the Eiffel Tower, to Place de la Concord, through the gardens to the Lourve, to the Rodin gallery to take a peek of the famous sculpture, the Thinker, past the domed church and the old military hospital. The amount of trivia that I learnt, will never leave my head, and Im sure that I will become the Trivial Pursuit champion about Paris. The night tour took a different route, taking us through the Latin Quater, Notre Dame, Lourve again, riding bikes past the Venus de Milo (saw it through the window), past the statue of Joan of Arc and finishing on a boat ride down the river Seine, complete with more wine. I have to say that I have not had so much fun riding around the Parisian round-a-bouts as what I did that day. So much to see and so little time. Will be going back to see more and experience more of this great city
Venus De Milo AKA Aphrodite

Day to myself

The last day in Paris started with a typical Parisian breakfast, Chocolat Chaud, Baguette, Croissant, and I think an omlette. Can not for the life of me forget the taste of fresh Baguette with butter, or croissant dipped in Chocolat Chaud. Sensational. I set off earlish, having my photo taken outside the Moulin Rouge, and then taking the metro to the Notre Dame Cathedral. This was one of the first churches that I had seen, and I must say I was impressed. The Architechture was amazing. Next stop, the Latin Quater. This is definately an area that I would stay in next time and do a bit more exploring. Went down to the Lourve, had a look at Mona, wasnt impressed, checked out Napoleons apartments, very impressed, and admired the Grecian statues. Venus de Milo, or Aphrodite is a beautiful piece of art.

Great that you took the day and night bike tours! When I was in Paris last June I rented a bike for ten days and cycled everywhere, including to all the opera houses and back. It's such a fantastic way to get around!

Ahh Suzy, your pages are growing... "Drinking wine on Sacre Coeur steps" this brings memories back to me. I sat there several times (and always in the dark with something to drink). Regards, Michael
