Getting TO/AROUND: Found out the hard way that, when going though the Metro turnstile, if you don't take your ticket out within a certain time frame, the machine may just suck it back in and keep it. Usually you don't encounter this "timeout" problem, but in our case, we were messing around with an unruly suitcase so it delayed my quick passing through the gates. I went to grab the ticket after it passed through the machine and just as I reached for it, whoosh, it disappeared back into the machine. Since we were doing a transfer to the RER we weren't sure if we needed a ticket to continue so we went to the nearest info booth. The guy understood what happened and took us back to the machine. He opened it up, looked around and found... nothing. Basically he said, sorry, we'd have to buy another ticket. Luckily we had bought our orginal tickets with a credit card so we had a receipt. We showed it to him and he went and gave us some kind of replacement ticket. By the way, an ATM machine will retract your card back into the machine if you don't remove it within a certain time frame as well.
