Entrance to Austin City Limits Festival
This one is recent, lucky you! Austin is a fun town...! Here is proof... recently (9/17 - 19) was the Austin City Limits Music Fest. Here there were over 100 bands during the three-day concert. More pictures of that in my 'must see activity' tips.
There's lots to do here, but in my opinion its best if you're of age to drink because most of the things to do are geared towards that age. It's the home of the University of Texas, the largest public university in the USA, so there are constantly young people around going to all the clubs and milling around 6th street.
Speaking of 6th street... if you come to Austin for a party, 6th street is the place to go. Plenty of clubs, even more bars, little shops, and if you don't find something you like there, you can walk to nearby streets for more entertainment.
A couple of streets to go to in Austin are Guadalupe (a.k.a. the 'drag') and South Congress. These are apparently the more 'funky' parts of town and there's always something going on around here, especially since the drag is right across from UT.
If you want to take a daytrip from Austin, there are plenty of places to go. North Austin starts the hill country, and lake Travis can be beautiful (not to mention awesome, EXPENSIVE houses). South of Austin you can go to San Marcos for some shopping in the outlet malls. Some other places that are close are Fredericksburg for shopping, Elgin for some BBQ, etc.

a last note for now... this page is still under construction so excuse the junky/non-existent pictures!

Diversity!

Austin, like most big cities, has a wide range of people. In the north and west, there is a very affluent community, where you can see houses like this....
(sorry if this is your house)

Keep Austin Weird

..is the motto. You'll see bumper stickers for it everywhere. People really do keep it a strange, funky place. I'm guilty... see picture. This is the Chuy's Thanksgiving/Christmas parade. Toys are donated to the underpriveleged children. Here I am with my toy donation... I like to please the crowd as well.

Glad to see that sea of bikes at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. I see you have signed up for EuroMeet 2008 in Karlsruhe, so I look forward to meeting you there.

Thanks for the restaurant tips...I'm going to be in Austin in a couple of weeks for some college recruiting business, perhaps they'll come in handy!
