New York, New York...

A first bad impression

The first time I went to New York it was on september 2000. When you've never been to New York, you wonder how this city looks like. Indeed, you hear many things about New York : the dangerous New York of the years 80's, the beautiful New York, the green Central Park,... Well before your arrival, you've various images of New York in your head.
Thus I arrived to New York at the end of august 2000. It was not my first trip to the United States. Indeed, I went to Boston a few years before. My plane landed at JFK airport. I was with two other friends. We took the subway, direction Manhattan because we had made a reservation at the Chelsea Youth Hostel located in the Chelsea District. It's very strange because you take the subway at JFK airport station. The subway is for a long moment outside so you can have a look at New Yorks suburbs (Queen and Brooklyn). And at one moment, the subway goes underground and you're plunged in the real atmosphere of New York. When you leave the underground subway in Manhattan and that you see New York city centre for the first time it's really impressive : all this people and cars, all this noise and all this pollution. The first day I came in New York, I couldn't breathe because of the warm and this pollution ! A cloud of dust covered New York. And I became sick because of the air conditioning : very hot outside, very cold inside. That's was my first day in New York en th'ats is why I wrote "A first bad impression". But I think that this first bad impression was due to the long voyage wich I had had to make from Lyon.

Chelsea International Youth Hostel

I chose to write a chapter about the Chelsea International Youth Hostel because it played a great role in the quality of our stay in New York. Indeed, in 2000, my friends and me were students. We hadn't much money to spend in the lodging. And the logic wants that the less you pay, the worst you get. So before our departure, we've spend much time on the internet to choose the best hostel. And we thought that the Chelsea International Youth Hostel was the right one on the internet. And indeed, it was. To continue soon,...
