Getting TO/AROUND: To go around Malta, you can either walk, ride a bus, drive yourself, or take a taxi. I took a bus most of the time (which was pretty convenient), but if you are in a hurry or have lots of luggages, taxi maybe the way to go. Malta taxies do not use a meter, which means you need to negotiate the price before you get in a car. Some of the taxi drivers, especially if you are tourist, name outragiously high price thinking that you don't know better. If you want to arrange taxi to pick you up at hotel or restaurant, have hotel or restaurant call them, and negotiate the fee for you. At the airport, go to the taxi booth to pre-pay the fee to your destination. Here, they have the set fee posted, so that you don't need to worry about paying more than you should. The driver from the airport to hotel was crazy! Two lanes meant three lanes, and one lane meant two lanes to him, he often squeeze through the traffic by creating his own lane! He was very friendly, but crazy!

Transportation: It takes you everywhere!

Getting TO/AROUND: First, there was a train service in Malta. Since the bus service started in 1905, the bus has become very popular, and the train has become very costly to run. Since the train performed the last services from Rabat to Valletta on March 31, 1931, the bus has been transporting people to everywhere on the island. I took a bus to just about everywhere. It comes in every 10-15 min. and very cheap. (lm0.20 one way, 1 zone) You'll see very old buses with no door, and pretty new ones with door, but not closed. (My kind of bus!) One of the driver was eating while skillfully driving with his left wrist. (My kid of driver!) I couldn't see what he was doing with his right hand... There are several ticket types, i.e., one day ticket and return ticket. If you know that you'll ride several times a day, buy one day ticket. From St Julian's to Valletta was lm0.20 one way. From St Julian's to Mdina was lm0.50 one way.

Transportation: Malta's buggy ride

Getting TO/AROUND: Maybe I should put this under "tourist trap".... In a city like Valletta, St Julian's, and Mdina, you'll see horse buggies. You'll probably hear the drivers calling you before you see the buggies. If you are tired of walking, or think that buggy ride is romantic or something, try it.
