| | Malta is a small island in Mediterranean Sea.
In 1530, when Emperor Charles V of Spain ceded Malta to the Order of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem, the Knights sent a deputation to find out the domicile. The reports said, "... rocks of soft sandstone. The rocky ground is covered with sand no deeper than three to four feet."
According to DH Lawrence's letter in 1920, the impressions of the place hardly changed over the centuries. "Malta is a strange place - a dry, bath-brick island that glares and sets your teeth on edge and is so dry that one expects oneself to begin to crackle." |
| | I didn't know much about Malta, though it was on my "must visit" list mainly to scuba dive there. Since I found out that I was going there 8 days before the departure date, I didn't have much time to gather lots of information. (I got some good tips from VT members! Thank you!!)
So, I went there with pretty much a blank canvas, and happily report to you that I came back with colorful memories, ...a crazy cab ride from the airport to hotel, wonderful conversations with a restaurant owner/chef, a fun trip to Gozo, getting lost in a small village, mysteriously appeared a bottle of red wine... Next time, I would like to go back there in a warmer month to scuba dive in the beautiful water. |
