Memorial day wknd, 1997, peter and i set out on a week long journey through the trails of Harriman State Park. A friend had mapped out the route for us, and part of the hike included the Appalachian trail. what a joy it was to be out of civilization and surviving in the woods. i felt i could tackle anything after that, and my love for camping greatly increased since. |
| | shelters this is one of the shelters we spent a night at. they are located sporatically on the trails, and are marked on trail maps. you are only supposed to camp at shelters, and they are really cool, each are slightly different, but all cotain a platform and a built-in stone fireplace. i felt very much like a pioneer woman cooking over the fire in the stone hut! |
| | bald rock this area is all stone, and the trees mustve been burned or somethng because they all look petrified, very creepy. there is a shelter here and we made it there just in time to set up and watch the sun go down. |
