Morocco Bound

Dades Valley
"We wanted something thoroughly and uncompromisingly foreign- foreign from top to bottom- foreign from center to circumference- foreign inside and outside and all around- nothing anywhere about it to dilute it’s foreignness- nothing to remind us of any other people or any other land under the sun. And lo! In Tangiers we have found it!
-Mark Twain, The Innocents Abroad

Exactly how I felt about Morocco! My first trip to Morocco was in 1996. Since then I have been enchanted by this wonderful country, its people and its enormous variety that I've gone back almost every summer. Every year is a new experience, a new discovery, new friends....

Morocco is really an ideal place for independent travel. Hiking on the Atlas, a journey through the southern oasis or into the Sahara, wandering in the alleyways of Fez and haggling in Jemaa El Fna in Marrakech... If it's your first time to visit and you don't speak French or Arabic, it maybe a little hard but it's difficult for any traveller to go for long without running into Morocco's equally powerful tradition of hospitality, generosity, helpfulness and openness. Once you adapt to their way of life, all your time will be well spent. It's also a safe and politically stable country to visit. The bombing in Casablanca scared some tourist away but not for long. To this day Morocco is one the most frequented country in North Africa. The death in 1999 of King Hassan II, the Arab world's longest serving leader, was followed by an easy transition to his son, Mohammed VI.

Hopefully this page (when it's done :) ) will be helpful to anyone who want's to explore Morocco.

Excellent Morocco page. I'm returning for 2 weeks in March and hoping to see much more this time. The Todra Gorge looks beautiful, I'll be sure to include that on my list.
