Brazil is an AMAZING country. Where to start? How about the beaches. Talk about amazing. I've been lucky to see beaches from Porto Seguro and Arrial in Bahia down to Copacabana and Ipanema in Rio, Ilha Grande and Ilha Bella, Sao Paulo state and Florianapolis -- and they are all AMAZING. Even the beaches along the Amazon River near Manaus are great! Ilha Grande stands out as being the best though -- Lopez Mendez beach to be precise. Not to be missed. New Years in Brazil shouldn't be missed either -- I spent it in Arrial in 2002/3 and that was a blast. Be ready for nonstop music and dancing. Wear white on New Years Eve and join everyone on the beach. :-)

HUGE. Sao Paulo is beyond description of size. 20 million? Wow. Rio is smaller by about 5 mill or so (big deal!) but more attractive in that it is right on the water and works it's way up into the mountains....a stunning sight to behold. Both cities, however, have trouble with crime and one needs to be very careful.

Trekking through the jungle and swimming in the Amazon River are two things one might not expect to do in life. Throw in drinking water from a vine, eating grubs, fishing for Pirranhas and eating them and then your really over your head. But it's a great experience.
