I studied Russian for 5 years at both the University of Otago and the University of Auckland in New Zealand, and i have always been attracted to the country.
I visited for the first time in July 2001 for five weeks, and returned for a further 4 weeks in 2004. The first time, I visited Moscow, and St Petersburg and various other places in European Russia, and the second time, I took the Trans-Siberian all the way to Vladivostok and then the ferry back to Japan

I took a quick trip back to Vladivostok, and also fitted in an overnight trip to Ussuriysk
Hopefully 2012 will see another visit to Russia. Time will tell. One of my great regrets in recent times is that there was 7 years between my visits. As 2012 will be my last year in Japan, I plan to visit again while I am in the neighbourhood

Joshua, another gorgeous page about your time in Russia. Interesting to read that you organised your visa for Russia in Vilnius. Last year we organised our visa to Belarus in Vilnius as well. I have also tried all the Russian beers which you list in your tip and I agree that they are all very drinkable. Just note that Kozel is a Czech beer and not a Russian beer.
I feel like visitng more places in Russia soon.:) I do feel great to Eastern countries.:] Thx for tips!
good tips. I do want to get there sometime
