We were just passing through Swellendam and happened across Cypress Cottage. Its a very charming little place, with good sized rooms, in a nice location on the main road in Swellendam. The building is one of the oldest homes in Swellendam and has a ton of old-Cape charm. An extra bonus is the fact that its right next door to a phenomenal restaurant, Koornlands. Overall, I think its a great sign when the owners are so proud of their establishment and their town that they are saddened/offended when they find out that you're not staying longer. That's what happened at Cypress Cottage... the owner was shocked we weren't spending a few days in Swellendam (she gave a great sales pitch, so next time, we may). Overall, Swellendam is a charming little place that I'd like to return to. When we do, we'd definitely stay here again. UPDATE: Apparently, ownership has changed at Cypress Cottage, and they have done some big renovations to the rooms, etc.
Unique Qualities: It's location right next door to the fantastic Koornlands Restaurant (please see my restaurant page). Very charming, old building. Good location in center of town.
