"Uncontaminated beauty" Isola San Domino by JoinBG
Isola San Domino Travel Guide: 9 reviews and 17 photos
Off the coast of Rodi Garganico, Puglia, there is a group of small islands, rugged and uncontaminated, surrounded by gorgeous, crystal clear, turquoise water. The coasts of the islands and the waters are in large part protected and considered a national park. Diving around these islands is really great, especially in September when most of the tourists have gone. The staff at the Marlin Diving Center are exceptional and took the time, not only to guide us in our dives, but also once the dive was over they gladly showed us some of the spectacular grottoes and coves of the islands.
On the island of San Nicola there is an abbey from the 8th century called Santa Maria a Mare. The walk to the top of the island is quite a hike, but the view spectacular! For the less athletic there is an elevator...
If you eat at the hotels, the food is mediocre. The best meals we had were at the Belvedere. It is a small restaurant where there is no menu, they propose dishes to you depending on what they have available and what fish they were able to get that morning. The pasta with clams and mussels was exquisite!
- Pros:Quiet, nature vacation
- Cons:If you like shopping and party crowds, this is not your place.
