Sea of Galilee - Kinneret - Lake Tiberias. Wow ! How many names does a single body of water need? :)
I only spent a few hours here but it was a pleasant time in a beatiful setting. The approach is breath-taking as you descend to the valley floor. It's 200 metres below sea level, but not salty like the Dead Sea.
Although there are a lot of religious sites around here for both Jews and Christians it's mainly a tourist area, one of the most popular in this part of Israel, and there are plenty of places for entertainment and water sports.
Swimming in the Dead Sea, at least from the beach I went to in the south was a bizarre experience. For various reasons the lake is much, much shallower than it used to be. Consequently I had to wade about 100 metres out through thick silt before I got to a spot deep to swim. And even then I kept banging my knees on rocks |
